My Story

Daniel’s Story

I was born and raised in Lima, Peru. At the age of 22, I moved to the United States and found myself working multiple jobs while struggling to fit in a foreign culture and learn a completely different language.

As an Immigrant in a foreign country, I found myself overwhelmed, rejected, and discriminated against.

It was at this point in my life that I realized how incompetent and inexperienced I was when connecting with other people who didn’t speak my language. Both literally and figuratively.

No matter how much effort I put into mastering this new language, and learning about the culture, I wasn’t connecting with people on a personal level and still felt isolated.

This led to me feeling anxious and fearful. As a result, I started spending more time online and prioritized chat rooms, dating apps, and pornography.

Fast forward to 2017, when I made a big life decision. I decided to put myself out there and start working on my social skills to figure out how to connect with people of all cultures on a deeper level.

I realized that I still had a lot of insecurities about my race and accent, and I knew I had a long road ahead of me.

After lots of practice and trial and error in social interactions with people from all over, I noticed a void of information for people trying to fit in and learn a new language the right way.

This led me to a realization — that there needed to be a reliable source of information that immigrants and language learners could rely on.

Out of that realization, Byond language was born. Now at 37, I’ve mastered more than just a language, I’ve conquered a new culture, and the deep connections and relationships that came with it.

I now serve the best community of language learners, travelers, and expats looking to stop feeling alienated from a country or culture they seek to understand by helping them conquer their fears, level up their social skills, and become confident, more prepared language speakers.
